Dental examinations

Perth Equine Vets / Dental examinations

Dental examinations are a vital part of the veterinary preventative healthcare for your horse. It is recommended that all horses have their teeth checked at least every 6 to 12 months in order to prevent problems from building up and causing pain.

In order to facilitate this, most horses will need to be sedated, so that a thorough inspection can be carried out, as it is virtually impossible to assess the horse’s dental problems without doing this. Remember that a dental examination is so much more than a quick rasp. Having a veterinary surgeon complete the examination under sedation means diastema, fractured teeth, wolf teeth, and overgrowths can be dealt with appropriately. A dental examination and treatment includes sedation as standard in the price.
